It's been 13 years since my grandmother passed away.

Even though she's been gone for a while, I still regularly think of the lessons she taught me.

She was one of the most empathetic individuals that I've ever met.

-Her empathy was forged in struggle since she experienced tremendous financial pain during the Great Depression.

-She got pure joy out of serving individuals in her community.

-She taught me the importance of treating everyone with dignity and respect.

And last but definitely not least, my grandmother knew that in order to change a community for the better, you needed great leadership.

I will never forget her.

Do you remember the lessons your grandparents taught you?
